Southampton vs Manchester City - Premier League preview and odds
April 15, 2017 17:30pm - St. Mary`s Stadium
Premier League
Southampton will look to make it three wins in a row when they welcome top four hopefuls Manchester City to St. Mary`s Stadium on Saturday evening.
Saints could scupper City`s top four push
The Saints have lost just one of their last six Premier League matches and will now set their sights on overhauling eight-ranked West Bromwich Albion, who they beat 1-0 at the Hawthorns last time out. The South Coast team are currently four points behind the Baggies but have two games in hand.
Meanwhile, Manchester City will be looking for their first Premier League away win in three matches when they make the long journey south on Saturday. In the battle for fourth place, the Sky Blues have a four point advantage over their city neighbours, Manchester United, but have played one game more. A win this weekend would ensure that they keep their rivals at arms-length heading into the run-in.
Victory would also lift Pep Guardiola`s men above third-ranked Liverpool, on a temporary basis at least, with the Reds not playing until tomorrow. In their last two away matches, they narrowly lost to Chelsea (2-1) and played out a 2-2 draw with sixth-ranked Arsenal. They come into this game on the back of a 3-1 home win against Hull City.
Team news
Oriol Romeu (suspended), Virgil van Dijk (ankle), Charlie Austin (dislocated shoulder), Alex McCarthy (hamstring strain) and Matt Targett (hamstring strain) are all expected to miss out for the home side, while Steven Davis (ankle), Sofiane Boufal (muscular) and Manolo Gabbiadini (groin strain) are all doubtful.
Meanwhile for the visitors, Bacary Sagna (groin strain), Gabriel Jesus (metatarsal fracture) and Ilkay Gundogan (knee) have all been ruled out.
