May 18, 2016 19:45pm - St. Jakob-Park
Europa League - Final
Liverpool will go in search of their 12th European trophy in Basel on Wednesday when they go head-to-head with a Sevilla side who are aiming for their third-straight Europa League crown.
Reds favourites to don Europa League crown
Liverpool will feature in their first European final in nine years when they take on Sevilla in Basel on Wednesday. The Reds have won a total of 11 European trophies including five European Cups/Champions Leagues and three UEFA Cups/Europa Leagues.
Jurgen Klopp took the opportunity to rest players in the final three league games of the season in preparation for this final. With a Champions League place at stake, this is a make or break game for the English side, who could only manage an eighth-place finish in their domestic campaign.
The Merseyside club come into this game on the back of consecutive 1-1 draws against Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion in the league.
Sevilla aiming for third-straight crown
Sevilla have won this competition four times in the last 10 years and are aiming to make history by winning it for the third year in a row. Like Liverpool, the Spanish side have rested players in recent league games, but unlike Liverpool, they have struggled to grind out results in their last few games.
In total, the Andalusians have won just two of their last eight games in all competitions and have won just one of their last 14 away from their home stadium. In their domestic campaign, they have the worst away form of any team, having failed to win a single game on the road.
Los Rojiblancos lost seven of their last nine games in the league including their last three in a row.
Team news
The English club will be without Danny Ward and Mamadou Sakho, while Jordan Henderson and Divock Origi are both doubtful.
Meanwhile, Unai Emery will have to make do without Nicolás Pareja, Diogo Figueiras, Mariano, Federiico Fazio, Benoît Trémoulinas, José Antonio Reyes, Michael Krohn-Dehli and Marco Andreolli.
