La Liga preview and odds: Rayo Vallecano vs Levante
May 08, 2016 19:30pm - Estadio Ciudad de Valencia
La Liga
Rayo Vallecano head in to the last game of the season knowing that they must beat already-relegated Levante to stand any chance of retaining their place in La Liga.
Day of reckoning for Rayo
Rayo Vallecano are one of three teams battling for the one remaining position of safety in the La Liga. The small team from Madrid will begin the day one-point adrift of their two relegation rivals, Getafe and Sporting Gijon. However, they are playing at home against a team that has already been relegated.
Coach Paco Jemez has often been praised for over-achieving with the limited resources at his disposal, but this season his side has performed in line with expectations. Rayo come into this game on the back of three-straight defeats which have sunk them to 19th place in the league. Even a win on Sunday night may not be enough to keep them up.
Levante seeking second away win of the season
Levante are already relegated and will arrive in Madrid having won just one away game all season. In fact, no team in the league has lost more games on the road than the team from Valencia.
Despite having their relegation confirmed two weeks ago, Les Granotes still managed to put in a strong performance last week to beat Champions League finalists Atletico Madrid 2-1. That result, effectively knocked Diego Simeone`s men out of the title race.
Team news
Rayo have struggled with injuries all season and Sunday will be no different with Piti, Raúl Baena, Zé Castro, Patrick Ebert, David Cobeño and Toño all out of action.
Meanwhile, the visitors will be without Zouhair Feddal, Mauricio Cuero, Victor Camarasa and Lucas Orban.
