Southampton vs Newcastle - Premier League Preview and Odds
October 15, 2017 16:00pm - St. Mary`s Stadium
Premier League
After a poor start to the new campaign, Southampton will be looking for significant improvement when they take on newly-promoted Newcastle at St. Mary`s Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Prior to the international break, the Saints fell 2-1 away to Stoke City, their third defeat in four matches, the leave them sitting in 12th place in the table. A lack of goals has not helped their cause, with just five scored all season, three of which came against 10 man West Ham United at home. Overall, they have failed to score in eight of their last nine home matches.
A record on one win in six games, is not the kind of form that the South Coast side would have been hoping for at this point in the campaign, although new boss Mauricio Pellegrini should be afforded a little time to make his mark on the team. A win could lift them above Newcastle and into the top 10, while a defeat would leave them just three points clear of the drop zone.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have made a steady start on their return to the top flight under the guidance of Rafa Benitez. The Spanish Coach has instilled a sense of belief at St. James` Park that seems to be paying off on and off the field.
A record of three wins, one draw and three defeats is not a bad haul and has left them ninth in the table with seven games played. They fought hard for a point at home to Liverpool last time out and have notched up a total of seven goals this term, although only one of those came on the road (at Swansea).
Both of their away defeats came by a single goal at the hand of their fellow promoted sides. They will be hoping to take advantage of a Southampton side who are struggling for goals at home.

Betting odds and tips
The home side have been far from convincing while the newcomers are proving to be tough to beat and could cause the Saints some problems here. However, while the Saints are finding goals hard to come by at home, the Magpies have netted just once on the road. As a result, a low goal count and a draw could be on the cards here.
You can back the draw at 5/2 and Under 2.5 Goals at 7/10 with bet365. In the correct score market, the 0-0 draw looks like the best option at a price of 15/2, also with bet365.
