Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotpsur - Premier League Preview and Odds
February 16, 2020 14:00pm - Villa Park (Birmingham)
Premier League
Defeat to AFC Bournemouth last time out dealt a blow to Aston Villa`s Premier League survival hopes. But they remain a point above the drop zone heading into Sunday`s clash with sixth-ranked Tottenham Hotspur. The visitors themselves have their eye on a top-four finish after back-to-back wins.
Aston Villa`s season gone as expected with the club locked in a relegation battle heading into the final third of the season. Yet they remain in a strong position with a point separating them from the first hot spot occupied by 18th-ranked West Ham United.
The Villain`s best form has come at home where they have won five and drawn two from 12 games with only two defeats to teams outside of the top three. They have scored in all but one of their home games including those against Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester City.
Their last win at home to Spurs came back in 2008 and they have lost their last four in all competitions against the Londoners.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur kick-off just four points behind fourth-ranked Chelsea. Qualifying for the Champions League will be their main target now perhaps even ahead of FA Cup glory.
Since the back-to-back defeats to Liverpool and Southampton, Spurs have picked up seven points from eight with a draw at Watford and consecutive home wins against Norwich City and Manchester City. They have lost just two of their last 11 home matches (to Chelsea and Liverpool) and have climbed the table while many around them have continued to falter.
Their main problems have come away from home where they have managed just two wins all season. They will hope to change that statistic on Sunday and pile more pressure on Chelsea. Their strong record against Aston Villa should give them a boost heading into this game.
Predicted line-ups:
Aston Villa: Reina Hause, Mings, Engels Guilbert, Nakamba, Luiz, Targett Grealish, Samatta, El Ghazi
Tottenham: Lloris Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Tanganga Lo Celso, Winks, Ndombele Lucas, Son, Bergwijn
Recent Form (League)
Aston Villa: LWDLW
Tottenham Hotpsur: WWDLL
