Cheltenham Festival

Grade: 1
Runners: 8
Winner: £89,275
Going: Good to Soft
The talented Yorkhill will head off as favourite in the opening race on Thursday, and with three Grade 1 hurdle wins on his CV, that should come as no surprise. However, he was barely tested in his two chase starts this season and his jumping can leave a lot to be desired. What`s more, Mullins and Walsh haven`t had a great festival thus far, so punters may want to look for an alternative.
Politologue fits the bill for those seeking a chaser who is progressing well. He won his first two chase starts including a Grade 2 race at Ascot, before slipping up over fences for the first time when beaten at Haydock back in January. He returned to winning ways at Kempton last time out and has proved to be a solid jumper. The course and conditions should suit him. Stands a chance if he stays in the mix.
The 2015 Triumph runner-up Top Notch has also shown great jumping credentials since making the switch to fences. He has won his last four starts but this is a step up in level for Nicky Henderson`s horse. The quickening ground will also be a test.
Finally, we should take a look at Disko, an exciting prospect who claimed a Grade 1 win (at Leopardstown) on his last outing. A sound jumper, he can also handle the faster ground which could be a factor here on Thursday.
Betting odds and tips
When there are several close contenders, we are always drawn to the horse that appears to offer the best value and in this line-up, that horse is Disko. At 6/1, he may also appeal to each-way bettors.
You can back Disko at a best price of 6/1.
