Okay, there is no doubt about it, this is one of the most anticipated races of the calendar and by three o`clock the tension will be palpable across the entire venue. The atmosphere at the Gold Cup is electric and not every horse is cut out to perform under these conditions. So who has got what it takes to bring it home in the cauldron of noise in an elite field of horses?
The answer of course is Might Bite who looks like a no-brainer at a price of 9/2. He has showed nothing but class against strong opposition and in some testing conditions. He has a mixture of pace and stamina that will be essential in Friday`s conditions and has a feistiness that can been expertly contained by Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville. There is no more complete package in the race and it will take something special to beat him.
Native River was third last year and is a solid contender again. He should have done better last year but started scrapping too far out and his team will have learnt from that experience. He has been well-prepped for this and comes here fresh having ran only once this term - an impressive winning turn in the Denman Chase at Newbury. But it will take the race of his life to beat Might Bite.
