Grand Annual Chase Preview - Cheltenham Festival
March 16, 2018 17:30pm - Cheltenham
Distance: 2m 62y
Grade: 3
Runners: 26
Winner: £62,645
Going: Soft (heavy in places)
The Grand Annual Chase promises to bring the Festival racing to a close with a highly competitive encounter in which there are half a dozen genuine contenders. One horse that does stand out of the bunch is North Hill Harvey who may could have run in the Arkle but was pitched here instead. He has a decent record over the fences at Cheltenham and seems to favour this course above all others. And that could give him the edge.
The Nicky Henderson-trained Vaniteux is an interesting prospect having won twice over fences last term. Also showed well when coming in behind Politologue in a Grade 2 at Kempton back in December. Should go well off his mark and looks tremendous value at 22/1.
Last year`s winner Rock the World is back to defend his crown but he has done nothing since to convince he can repeat the feat and will be carrying more weight this time round. Others that should be in the mix include Bouvreuil, Le Prezien, Top Gamble and Don`t Touch It.
