Wimbledon Championships Mens Tennis
Roger Federer is just one step away from becoming Wimbledon champions for a record eight time. Standing in his way on Centre Court will be former US Open winner Marin Cilic.
Federer booked his place in the last two with a 7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 win over Tomas Berdych on Friday and has yet to drop a set in this years event. In fact, he has only lost two matches all season and came within a single point of winning both of those encounters.
This will be the Swiss player`s 11th appearance in the final, four more than any other player in the history of the game. What`s more, he will also become the oldest player to win the event in the Open era should he prevail on Sunday afternoon. In his last two finals appearances (2013 and 2014) he was beaten by Novak Djokovic, his last victory coming against Andy Murray back in 2012.
Marin Cilic has just a single Grand Slam title to his name (2014 US Open) and will be keen to take a rare opportunity to add second this weekend. He was knocked out of this tournament at the quarter-final stage by Federer just a year ago after failing to convert three match points in the fourth set.
He comes into this match on the back of a four set win over Andy Murray`s conqueror Sam Querrey in which he came from a set down to prevail.
The World No. 6`s only previous win over his opponent came en route to the 2014 US Open title when he cruised to a three set win at the semi-final stage.
Betting odds and tips
In his current form, it is hard to back against Federer, however Maric Cilic is a tough battler and will throw everything at this match as he seeks his second Grand Slam crown. As a result, the Croatian can be expected to pick up at least a set on his way to defeat.
Back Federer to win in four sets at 5/2 with Bet365.
