Euro 2016 preview and odds: Spain vs Turkey
Stade de Nice, Nice - June 15, 2016
Group stage - Group D
Spain will look to book their place in the last 16 when they face a Turkey side who have a dismal record against their Group D opponents.
Spain defending 52-year unbeaten record against Turkey
Reigning champions Spain will progress to the last 16 with a game to spare if they can find a way past Turkey on Friday night. Vincente del Bosque`s men will be defending a 52-year unbeaten record against their Group D rivals.
Spain put in solid display to see off the Czech Republic by a single Gerard Pique goal in the first game but there are still questions about who is best suited to lead their attacking line. Alvaro Morato had his moments in the last game but seemed to lack an understanding with his midfield suppliers, while Aritz Aduriz made little impact on his appearance from the bench.
Spain have played Turkey seven times in competitive matches with a W4 D2 L1 record. Turkey`s only win came in a World Cup qualifying match back in 1954 (1-0).
Turkey are currently bottom of Group D having lost to Croatia in their opening match. As a result, a bold approach can be expected as Fatih Terim`s men go in search of all three points. Besides, Turkey have never been a team to sit back and defend, regardless of their opposition.
Form (all competitions):
Spain: WLWWDDWWWW
Turkey: LWWLWWDWWW
Betting predictions
With two teams that covet possession on the pitch, this should make for an intriguing encounter. Spain will create plenty of chances but they will need to sharpen their attacking point if they are to prevail. As the game is stretched, Turkey could well grab a goal and that is reflected in our prediction.
