Newcastle United vs Chelsea - Premier League Preview and Odds
January 18, 2020 17:30pm - St James` Park (Newcastle)
Premier League
It hasn`t been a great winter period for Newcastle United who have lost three and drawn one of their last four matches since beating Crystal Palace before Christmas. However, their previous good form means they will kick off Saturday evening`s clash with Chelsea in 13th place.
Everton and Leicester City both took all three points from Newcastle`s last two home matches. Prior to that Steve Bruce`s men had gone eight league games unbeaten at St James` Park.
In their last league match, they earned a valuable point away to Wolves before cruising to a 4-1 FA Cup replay win against Rochdale.
The Magpies have lost six of the last seven meetings between the two sides. They were beaten 2-1 in this fixture last season and 1-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier in this campaign.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will look to reinforce their top-four credentials with a win on Saturday. The Blues are five points clear of fifth-ranked Manchester United with 16 games still to play. Despite being in fourth place, they are 22 points adrift of leaders Liverpool.
Frank Lampard`s men have recovered from a poor run of form which yielded five defeats in seven games back in November and December, They are now unbeaten in their last three and have lost just one of their last five.
Away from home, they are unbeaten in three, having won at Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal before drawing at Brighton and Hove Albion on their last road trip.
Predicted line-ups:
Newcastle United: Dubravka Hayden, Fernandez, Lascelles, Lejeune, Willems Ritchie, Shelvey, S.Longstaff, Almiron Joelinton.
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga James, Rudiger, Zouma, Azpilicueta Barkley, Jorginho, Kovacic Willian, Hudson-Odoi, Abraham.

Crystal Palace: WDWLW
Betting odds and tips
Newcastle are experiencing a winter slump, while Chelsea are unbeaten in 2020 and will be favourites to take all three points. The Blues have been strong on the road this season, having won seven of their last 10 away games in the league. However, they only kept one clean sheet in that time. As a result, the away win with both teams to score looks the best value bet in this game.
You can back Chelsea/Both Teams to Score at 9/4.
