Premier League preview and odds: Newcastle United vs Manchester City
April 19 , 2016 19:45pm - St. James` Park
Premier League
A win against Champions League semi-finalists Manchester City on Tuesday could lift Newcastle out of the bottom three, while victory for the visitors would move them a step closer to a top-four finish.
Newcastle buoyed by convincing win against Swasnea
Newcastle United grabbed their first win under new boss Rafa Benitez when they strolled to a 3-0 victory over in-form Swansea City last weekend. In what was billed as a must-win game, the home side delivered with a solid if somewhat nervy performance against the Welsh side to keep their survival hopes alive.
The win keeps the Geordies within three points of safety with the game in hand against Manchester City still to play. If they can upset the third-ranked team on Tuesday, they could haul themselves out of the bottom three with four games left to play.
Top four still not guaranteed for City
Having qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League, Manchester City now need to secure their place in next year`s edition of the event.
A run of three-straight league wins has certainly boosted their cause, and they will look to extend that run when they make the trip to St. James Park on Tuesday.
Manuel Pellgrini`s men seem to have found some late-season form and have bagged nine goals in the last three league games, while conceding just one. In their most recent match, they cruised to an impressive 3-0 win away to reigning champions Chelsea.
Team news
The home side will have to manage without Steven Taylor, Daryl Janmaat, Rob Elliott, Massadio Haidara and Tim Krul, while Kevin Mbabu remains doubtful.
Meanwhile, the visitors will continue without the injured Raheem Sterling.
