Euro 2016 preview and odds: Portugal vs Austria
Parc des Princes, Paris - June 15, 2016
Group stage - Group F
Group F rivals Austria and Portugal will both be trying to get their Euro 2016 campaigns back on track when they go head-to-head in Paris on Saturday.
Chance to makes amends after poor start for both teams
Cristiano Ronaldo will become Portugal`s most-capped player (128) when he takes to the field against Austria on Saturday night. However, his main concern will be keeping his maintaining his team`s status as Euro 2016 contenders.
Portugal fans were left disappointed by their side`s inability to finish off tournament minnows Iceland in the first game, and they now face a much bigger challenge in the shape of World Top 10-ranked Austria.
Despite their lofty status in the FIFA rankings, Austria slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of old rivals Hungary in their opening game. Having arrived in the tournament in great form, Marcel Koller will be hoping to put that game behind them and keep their tournament dreams alive with a win over the European Championship stalwarts. Changes will be forced with Aleksandar Dragović banned and Zlatko Junuzović out injured.
The huge Portuguese community in Paris should ensure an electric atmosphere for what will be seen as a must-win game for both sides.
Form (all competitions):
Portugal: DWLWWLWLWW
Austria: LLWLWLWWWW
Betting predictions
Austria looked like a force to be reckoned with before the tournament began, so the result against Hungary came as a shock to many observers. Whether it was just tournament nerves or an underestimation of Hungary remains to be seen but if the Austrians can get back to their best, they should have what it takes to overcome an unconvincing Portuguese side.
