Southampton vs West Ham United - Premier League Preview and Odds
August 19, 2017 15:00pm - St. Mary`s Stadium
Premier League
Southampton will look to solve their goal scoring problems when they welcome bottom of the pile West Ham United to St. Mary`s stadium on Saturday. The visitors themselves sunk to the foot of the table on goal difference following their opening day hammering at the hands of Manchester United.
Saints fans will have been disappointed to hear that their new Chinese owners have no plans to enter the transfer market before the deadline closes. Having used loans and contributions from third-party investors to complete the takeover, there will be no capital available to improve the squad in this window. As a result, Mauricio Pellegrino will have to make do with what he has got and may even be persuaded to let go of highly-rated defender Virgil van Dijk who has been coveted by both Liverpool and Chelsea.
The South Coast side have drawn blanks in six of their last seven Premier League matches and need to find a solution to their goal scoring problems soon. They were much the better side against Swansea last week but could not convert any of the many chances they created and had to make do with a point.
Meanwhile, West Ham United got off to a poor start, falling 4-0 away to Manchester United on the opening day. They were strong against the top sides in the early part of Slaven Bilic`s tenure but those days seem a distant memory now.
The Hammers have won just one of their last eight on the road in the Premier League and will find their opponents tough to break down here. However, if the hosts continue to squander their chances, the Londoners might just come away with a point. In fact, the 0-0 draw looks like a very tempting option.

Betting odds and tips
With the Saints current lack of confidence in front of goal, it is hard to make a case for a home win. Instead, the draw looks like the best bet. Four of Southamptons last seven matches have ended goalless so the 0-0 looks like good value at 10/1 or better.
