Premier League preview and odds: Southampton vs Liverpool
November 19, 2016 15:00pm - St. Mary`s Stadium
Premier League
Mid-table dwellers Southampton will look to end a three-game winless streak when they welcome high-flying Liverpool to St. Mary`s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
One win in five for Saints
With just three wins to their name this season, Southampton remain just three points clear of the relegation zone with 11 games played. Their best performances have come on home soil where they have been beaten just once all season - a 0-2 defeat against second-ranked Chelsea.
This will be their first appearance at St. Mary`s since that defeat and they will be hoping to bounce back by claiming a positive result against the current league leaders. Last time out, the Saints were beaten 2-1 away to third-from-bottom Hull City.
Meanwhile, table toppers Liverpool will look to consolidate their place at the summit of the Premier League by recording their fourth away win in a row. The Reds are unbeaten in nine matches overall and have only failed to win one of their last eight (a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur).
Eight of the last nine games involving the Anfield club have resulted in both teams scoring, the 0-0 bore-fest against Manchester United being the only exception. In addition, Jurgen Klopps men have netted in all but one of their away games this term.
Keeping a clean sheet may have been a problem for Liverpool this season but so far, their goal tally has more than compensated. They come into this game on the back of a 6-1 home win against Watford in which they probably should have scored more. Those goals took their total for the season to 30, the highest of any team in the league.
Team news
The home side could welcome back Dusan Tadic (broken nose), Ryan Bertrand (knock), Pierre Hojbjerg (knock), Fraser Forster (abdomen), Cedric Soares (foot) and Alex McCarthy (hamstring), while Shane Long and Matt Targett will both miss out with hamstring problems. They will be kept company in the treatment room by long-term absentee Jeremy Pied.
Meanwhile, the visitors will hand late fitness tests to Philippe Countinho and Adam Lallana, while Danny Ings (knee) and Sheyi Ojo (back) are both out of action.

Betting odds and tips
Southampton have conceded at least one goal and scored at least one goal in all but one of their home games this season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are on a nine-game unbeaten streak in the league and have won their last three away matches in a row. However, the Reds are still struggling to keep clean sheets and could find themselves having to score two or more to win again this weekend.
