Premier League preview and odds: Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley

December 18, 2016 16:00pm - White Hart Lane

Referee: K. Friend

Premier League

Sixth-ranked Tottenham Hotspur will look to keep themselves in the race for the top four places when they welcome poor travellers Burnley to North London on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs

Despite an inconsistent start to the season, Spurs have managed to stay in touch with the race for Champions League qualification places and still have the best defensive record in the league.

Mauricio Pochettino`s men were undefeated until the back end of November but have since lost two of their last four matches (away to Chelsea and Manchester United). They come into this match on the back of a 3-0 win at home to Hull City in midweek.

Many of Spurs issues have been injury-related with key players absent at various times throughout the campaign. That trend looks set to continue this weekend as Mousa Dembele is a serious doubt and Erik Lamela is still out injured.

Meanwhile, opponents Burnley will arrive in North London with the worst away form in the league. The Clarets have picked up just a single point and scored just one goal on the road this term. They come into this game on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to West Ham United in midweek.

Sean Dyche`s men have had to rely on their excellent home form to keep their heads above water but are now just three points above the drop zone with 16 games played.

Team news

The home side will be without Erik Lamela (hip), while Mousa Dembele and Vincent Janssen are bout doubtful.

Meanwhile, Burnley have nearly a full-strength squad to choose from with Johann Gudmendsson the only notable expection.

Recent form (League):

Tottenham Hotspur: WLWLW

Burnley: LWLLL

Tottenham scored in all of their home matches, while Burnley have scored just a single goal in all of their away matches.
