Sporting Gijon will be hoping to take advantage of Sevilla`s poor away record and haul themselves out of the drop zone in the process when the teams meet at El Molinon on Wednesday night.

Signs of improvement from Sporting

With just five games left to play, Sporting Gijon are sat in 18th place in La Liga just one point behind Granada. With the Andalusians not playing until Thursday, a win on Wednesday night could lift them out of the bottom three - temporarily at least.

The Asturian side have shown some signs of improvement recently, having beaten Atletico Madrid, drawn against Las Palmas and Levante, and restricted Malaga and Celta to single goal wins. They now face the only team not have won an away game in La Liga this season.

Sevilla go in search of elusive away win

Sevilla have not won a league game away from home all season, and that statistic could cost them a European place next season. The team from Andalucia could still qualify for Europe by winning the Europa league but they will want to secure a top-six finish in case the first scenario does not pan out.

They currently sit in seventh place in the league, four points behind sixth-ranked Celta de Vigo. With the Galician side in good form, Unai Emery`s men may have to win all their remaining games to stand a chance of catching them. They come into this game on the back of a four game winless run streak that started with three straight defeats and ended with a draw at home to Deportivo La Coruna last time out.

Team news

The home side will have to manage without the services of Alex Barrera, Canella, Alex Menendez and Bernardo Espinosa.

Meanwhile, the visitors have an extensive injury list that consists of Kevin Gameiro, Michael Krohn-Dehli, Vitolo, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Mariano, Benoit Tremoulinas, Nicolas Pareja and Marco Andreolli.
