Euro 2016 preview and odds: Romania vs Albania

Romania will be defending an eight-game unbeaten record in competitive meetings against Albania when the teams meet in the final round of Group A matches on Sunday night.

A must-win game for both teams

Romania and Albania will meet in Lyon knowing that defeat for either side would bring an end to their respective Euro 2016 campaigns. Romania have never lost to Albania in a competitive match and will start as favourites - however, they were twice held to a draw when the teams met in qualifying for Euro 2012.

Anghel Iordănescu`s men have just a single point on the board and need a win to stand any chance of progressing to the knockout stages. Răzvan Raţ, Steliano Filip and Mihai Pintilii are all doubtful for this match after picking up injuries in the previous game.

Albania have beaten Romania twice before in friendly matches but have never beaten them in a competitive environment. They start this game with zero points on the board but still have an outside chance of qualifying as one of the third-place teams.

The Albanians have impressed many people with their performances but unfortunately that has not translated into results. Coach Gianni De Biasi may decide to change the system for this make-or-break clash as his usual 4-5-1 formation has failed to bear any fruit at tournament level. Burim Kukeli is suspended for this clash with Lorik Cana expected to replace him in the line-up.

Albania have struggled for goals while Romania have managed to snatch just one in each of their previous matches. With so much at stake, another caging game can be expected and the goal count should be low.
