French Open preview and odds: Hyeon Chung vs. Quentin Halys

May 23, 2016 TBC - Roland Garros

Men’s Tennis - French Open, first round

Two youngsters who will both fancy their chances of making it to the second round of the French Open will go head-to-head on the opening day as 20-year-old Korean Hyeon Chung takes on 19-year.old Frenchman Quentin Halys.

Close battle expected between young hopefuls

Hyeon Chung has slipped back down the rankings after peaking at World No. 52 last October. He was unlucky to have been drawn against Novak Djokovic in the first round of the Australian Open back in January, while his best performance of the year came on the clay courts in Houston where he made it to the Quarter-finals before falling to John Isner.

Since then, he has fallen at the first hurdle in four out five events, the only exception being a first round victory against qualifier Carlos Berlocq in Istanbul.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old French player Quentin Halys is a man on the move. After a successful start to 2016 which saw him make it to the second round of the Australian Open (before falling to World No. 1 Novak Djokovic) and win the Tallahassee Challenger on clay back in April, he has risen to 154th in the world - his highest ever ranking position. In the last eight months, he has bagged three wins against top-100 opposition.

The right-hander made his Grand Slam debut in this event last year, when he was beaten in straight sets by Rafa Nadal.

Betting predictions

Both players are extremely talented but it is the Frenchman who has both momentum and form (on clay) on his side.
