Brighton and Hove Albion vs. Stoke City - Premier League Preview and Odds
November 20, 2017 20:00pm - The Amex Stadium
Premier League
Brighton and Hove Albion have already surprised a few people on their Premier League return and will look to maintain their place in the division`s top 10 when they host 15th-ranked Stoke City at the Amex Stadium on Monday night.
After starting the season with back-to-back defeats, the Seagulls have lost just two of their last nine matches and are already six points clear of the relegation zone that they were widely expected to dwell for most of the campaign. They are in fact closer to Europa League places than they are the drop zone.
They come into this game on the back of a 1-0 win at Swansea City, their second consecutive win on the road, and they remain unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches. They are also undefeated in the last four at home although their last two matches at the Amex, against Southampton and Everton both ended as 1-1 draws.
Meanwhile, Stoke have shown little sign of improvement this season and it could be argued that they have in fact regressed somewhat over the last 12 months. With just three wins from their 11 matches, they are probably below par from where they expected to be at this stage of the campaign. However, they do arrive here unbeaten in their last two matches, one of which as a 1-0 win away to Watford. In all competitions, they have lost five of their last eight.
Mark Hughes` men could draw level on points with Brighton with a win on Monday night and that would at least put the bottom three at arm`s length for the time being. But with just one away to their name all season, that might be a tricky task. Part of the problem has been their leaky defence which has already shipped 22 goals this term. On a more positive note, they have scored at least one goal in all but one of their away games.
