Liverpool vs. West Ham United - Premier League Preview and Odds

February 24, 2018 15:00pm - Anfield Stadium

Premier League

After a 10-day break, third-ranked Liverpool will resume their Premier League campaign against a West Ham side who are fighting to break free from the relegation battle. The Londoners have also enjoyed an extended break having not been involved in last week`s FA Cup action.

The Reds will be in buoyant mood having cruised to a 5-0 win away to Porto in their Champions League Round of 16 match last week. Since then, they have been taking part in a training camp in Spain. They are unbeaten in their last four matches in which they also kept three clean sheets. That will be m usic to their ears of fans who were hoping to see defensive improvements following the arrival of Virgil van Dijk in January.

Jurgen Klopp`s men have lost just one of their last 18 Premier League matches since losing to Tottenham Hotspur back in October, and they have lost just one league match at Anfield in the last 13 months. With that kind of form, they will be expected to win against a team that has won just one league match at Anfield in the last 55years.

West Ham United may be in 12th place in the table but they are just four points above the drop zones. David Moyes men have won just one of their last four Premier League matches but have only lost one of their last eight, suggesting that they are on course for survival. A defeat here would not be a disaster, but a win could give them a massive confidence boost. However, the West Ham boss rarely takes an attacking approach to games like this. Preferring instead to try and limit the damage.

Joe Gomez will miss out for the home side, while the visitors will have to make do without the injured Pedro Obiang, Edimilson Fernandes, Manuel Lanzini and Andy Carroll. Hammers winger Arthur Masuaka is serving a suspension for spitting.

Betting odds and tips

Three of Liverpool`s last four home matches have featured four goals or more and they will taking to the field fresh from a 10-day break and full of confidence following their European exploits. The Irons will do their best to frustrate their opponents just as they did at the Etihad in their 2-1 defeat to Man City and at Wembley where they earned a 1-1 against Spurs. However, they could be in for a hammering if they conceded early on. With that in mind, I would back Over 3-5 Goals at a price of Evens.
