Premier League preview and odds: Liverpool vs Newcastle United
April 23 , 2016 15:00pm - Anfield
Premier League
In-form Liverpool will be doing former boss Rafa Benitez no favours on Saturday when he leads his relegation-threatened Newcastle side out onto the Anfield turf.
Klopps men in best form of season
Following a run of three-straight league wins, Liverpool have put themselves right back in the hunt for the European qualification places. In fact, with five games still left to play, the Reds could even snatch a place in the top four should the teams above them stumble during the run-in.
The Merseyside team will come into this game on a high after humiliating their city rivals Everton in the local derby on Wednesday. The game finished 4-0 but in reality, the Europa League semi-finalists should have probably won by a much greater score-line.
Newcastle improvement might be too late
During their recent win over Swansea and their draw against Manchester City, Newcastle showed the kind of organisation and effort that had been lacking before the arrival of new boss Rafa Benitez. Despite their improvement, the Magpies are still stranded in 19th place with just four games left to play.
Benitez can expect no favours from his old club who will be looking to build even more momentum ahead of their Europa League semi-final clash with Villarreal.
Team news
Divock Origi has joined a long list injured players at Liverpool that also includes Kolo Toure, Emre Can, Jordan Henderson, Christian Benteke, Jordan Rossiter, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez.
Meanwhile, Newcastle will have to cope without the services of Steven Taylor, Daryl Janmaat, Rob Elliott, Massadio Haidara and Tim Krul, while Fabricio Coloccini and Kevin Mbabu both remain doubtful.
