French Open preview and odds: Garbine Muguruza vs Anna Schmiedlova
May 22, 2016 TBC - Roland Garros
Two of women`s tennis` best young players will go head-to-head in the first round of the French Open as Garbine Muguruza and Anna Schmiedlova meet on the Roland Garros clay for the second time.
Garbine Muguruza now one of the top names in women`s tennis
Having reached a Grand Slam final and a World Tour final, and peaked at No. 3 in the world, Garbine Muguruza has quickly become one of the top names in world tennis. With that level of notoriety comes a huge amount of pressure and expectation . but so far, the young Spanish player seems to be bearing it well.
On her last two visits to Roland Garros, she made it to the quarter-final stage - last year she lost to Lucie Safarova in straight sets and the year before she lost a three-set battle against Maria Sharapova.
Her opponent, Anna Schmiedlova, has not had a great start to the clay season having lost all of the WTA matches she has played including a defeat at the hands of Muguruza in Madrid. However, she has had success on the brick dust in the past having won the Bucharest Open last July 2015 and contested the Rio Open final in February of the same year. On both occasions her opponent was Sara Errani.
The 21-year-old Slovakian has yet to beat Muguruza in four previous meetings. In fact, she has yet to take a set off the Spaniard.
Betting predictions
Muguruza is now one of the big names in tennis and will be expected to reach at least the quarter-final stage. Despite her obvious talent, there is little to suggest that Anna Schmiedlova will be capable of stopping her.
