Sandringham Handicap - Royal Ascot 2017
June 21, 2016 17:35pm - Ascot, Berkshire
Royal Ascot 2017
Category: Fillies Listed, Class 1
Distance: 1m
Going: Good to firm
Runners: 24
Winner: £ 45,368.00
A competitive field will line up for this 1m Sandringham Handicap for fillies - however,it is Rain Goddess and Sibilance who have particularly caught the eye ahead of this.
The former has run well this season, showing enough quality to suggest that she should excel in this Listed Handicap company despite carrying top weight. The distance and ground should also suit her and the stable have a reputation for testing such runners before dropping back in class. In what will be a tough race, she should have the pace to stay in the reckoning and must be considered a strong contender here.
Meanwhile, Sibilance looks to be on good shape with a third place in York last time out simply confirming her preference for firmer ground. Prior to that, she strode to back-to-back wins at Kempton including a win over a mile on the Polytrack surface. Considering her quality and the suitable conditions this week, she seems to be running off a favourable mark and could be available at a double figure price. A very tempting proposition.
Another interesting contender is On Her Toes. She has already won a Listed race and was not disgraced when third at Newmarket back in August. Returned with a second place on softer ground in York and should improve here on the firmer track. The distance longer is the only slight concern.
Betting odds and tips
In what is a strong field, Sibilance gets the vote ahead of Rain Goddess and On Her Toes, although all three are available at tempting prices and could also be included as each-way picks.
