Euro 2016 preview and odds: Hungary vs Portugal

Portugal can join their Group F opponents in the last 16 of the Euros with victory on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, already-qualified Hungary can top the group with a win.

Hungary already through to last 16

Group F pace-setters Hungary are already guaranteed a place in the knockout phase but that wont stop them pushing for the win on Wednesday. Bernd Storck`s men have built up good momentum and can boost their confidence even further by beating Portugal and topping Group F.

Portugal need a win to progress and will be buoyed by the fact that they have won all of their previous meetings against the Hungarians. Their most recent triumphs came in the qualifying stages of the 2010 World Cup. However, they will face a much tougher Hungary side this week. The teams will also face each other in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty in the draw against Austria and will no doubt be looking to make amends on Wednesday. The Real Madrid player has perhaps been trying too hard to impose himself on the tournament rather than trusting in his teammates to step up to the plate. It will interesting to see if he still on free-kick and penalty duty for this crucial clash.

Despite languishing in third place, Portugal could feasibly end up as Group F winners, such is the tight nature of the section. If they are to achieve their goal of progression, they will need to sharpen up their finishing for this game.

Betting predictions

Portugal have had over 50 shots on goal but have only scored once. Surely their wastefulness cannot continue for a third game.

Having said that, Hungary have been one of the surprise teams of the tournament and their huge price makes them too good to resist.
