Royal Ascot 2017
Category: Handicap, Class 2
Distance: 1m
Going: Good to firm
Runners: 29
Winner: £ 74,700.00
The Britannia Stakes is a handicap race open to three-year-old colts and geldings. It is run over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres) on the straight course.
Son of the Stars impressed in a fast-paced race at Newmarket last time out, eventually being pipped by Ronald R. There was plenty to suggest that he can continue to progress from there and a jump in weight should not deter potential backers.
City of Joy is another that seems to be on an upward curve and arrives here on the back of consecutive distance wins. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained mount will also benefit from having Rayan Moore pacing him through his one. Shrewd punters might find a double figure price for this one.
Senator grabbed plenty of attention in his first two races but subsequently slumped to a disappointing seventh in a Listed race at Doncaster. His reappearance on soft ground at York gave a hint that he might be returning to form. As a result, he looks like a good value each-way pick now he is back on his favoured ground.
Betting odds and tips
In what looks like a very competitive field, Son of the Stars is a worthy favourite and is available at a decent price of 6/1. However, City of Joy should not be ignored at a price of 9/1. Of the big priced entries, Senator looks best placed to grab a place.
You can back Son of the Stars at 6/1 and City of Joy at 9/1, both with Bet365. Meanwhile, Senator can be backed at 33/1 with the same bookmaker.
Remember, Bet365 are offering guaranteed best odds on all Royal Ascot races and a 100% deposit bonus up to £200 for new accounts.
