June 22, 2016 16:20pm - Ascot, Berkshire
Royal Ascot 2017
Category: Group 1, Class 1
Distance: 2m 3f 210y
Going: Good to firm
Runners: 14
Winner: £ 226,840.00
The showpiece race of day three is this Group 1 Gold Cup event open to horses aged four years or older.
After his victory in this race last year, Order of St George should attract plenty of attention from punters once again. And of course, trainer Aidan O`Brien has a ridiculous record in this event. However, the 2016 champ has not been entirely convincing since then and may start a little short in the market.
One horse that may give him a run for his money while offering much better value is Big Orange. The front-runner had a mixed winter overseas but came back with a bang at Sandown and will love the conditions here. If he can run his race, he stands a big chance of crossing the line first but at a price of 8/1, he offers decent each-way value regardless.
Those looking for a big money pick in his race should take a glance at Endless Time. She showed decent form when finishing second to the highly-rated Vazirabad at Saint-Cloud last year and was leading 2f out before the soft ground took its toll at York last time out. She should enjoy a better run here and offers great each-way value.
Betting odds and tips
Order of St George is a worthy favourite but Big Orange could cause an upset here and is available a very generous price of 8/1.
