West Ham United vs Manchester United - Premier League Preview and Odds
September 22, 2019 14:00pm - London Stadium (London)
Premier League
West Ham United and Manchester United will kick-off level on points at the London Stadium on Sunday. A win for either side could lift them into the top four - on a temporary basis at least.
A 5-0 opening day defeat at home to Manchester City left West Ham fans fearing the worst for the rest of the season but they have gone four games unbeaten since and will start this game with a spring in their step. Last time out, they were held 0-0 at newly-promoted Aston Villa but prior to that, they enjoyed back-to-back wins away to Watford and at home to Norwich City. They will hope to take advantage of a Manchester United side that has won just one of their last four matches.
Manuel Pellegrini`s men have lost just of their last 16 Premier League matches on home soil and two of those defeats came against Manchester City. In the equivalent fixture last season, they ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Felipe Anderson, Victor Lindelof (OG) and Marko Arnautovic.
Manchester United began the season with an impressive 4-0 win at home to Chelsea but since then, they have looked less than convincing. They drew at Wolverhampton Wanderers, lost at home to Crystal Palace and then drew at Southampton before beating Leicester City by a single goal at Old Trafford last week. Even in that game, the visitors would have been disappointed not to have come away with a point.
The Red Devils are already seven points adrift of the league leaders Liverpool with just five games played and face a real battle to break back into the top four. As a result, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is already under pressure less than 12 months into the job.
United have not won any of their last eight competitive away games, a record stretching back to March when they famously won in Paris.
