Manchester United vs Liverpool - Premier League Preview and Odds
February 24, 2019 14:05pm - Old Trafford
Premier League
Two of the Premier League`s oldest foes go head to head on Sunday with plenty at stake as Manchester United seek to consolidate their place in the top four and Liverpool continue their title quest.
It has been a while since a fixture between these two sides has been so hotly anticipated, but Manchester United`s recent revival has given this tie a whole new complexion. The home side still start as outsiders, but the gap in odds between the two is not what it would have been prior to Ole Gunnar Solksjaer`s arrival.
The Red Devils last Premier League defeat came against Liverpool at Anfield and signalled the end of Jose Mourinho`s reign at the club. Since then, they have won eight and drawn one. Solksjaer got his first taste of defeat as United boss when his side lost 2-0 at home to PSG in their recent Champions League clash, but they followed that up with an impressive 2-0 FA Cup win at Chelsea.
United have only kept one clean sheet at home in the league all season, but only Tottenham Hotspur have gone away from Old Trafford with all three points - and that defeat came way back in August. A win on Sunday would keep them in the top four for another week at least, a scenario that seemed improbable just a couple of months ago.
Meanwhile, Liverpool can go clear at the top of the Premier League table with a win on Sunday. The Reds are level on points with Manchester City, but have played one game less, so victory would keep their fate in their own hands.
Jurgen Klopp`s men cruised to a 3-1 in the reverse fixture back in December and only Pep Guardiola`s men have beaten them in the league since then. That was their one and only defeat of the season so far.
The Merseyside team put in a good display at home to Bayern Munich in their midweek Champions League game, but were unable to find a breakthrough. However, an away goal in Germany could give them the advantage in that tie.
With just 11 games to play after this, the pressure is mounting on Klopp`s men. This game could prove to be a pivotal moment in their quest to break their 29-year title drought.

Betting odds and tips
Only Manchester City have got the better of Liverpool this season, so United have it all to do. They look a different side since Solksjaer arrived, but this game will be their biggest test yet.
This match is a tough one to call, but expect both teams to get on the score sheet in what should be a frantic and tension-filled game.
You can back Both Teams to Score at 8/13.
