Champions League
Only the most loyal fans would have tipped Liverpool or Roma for Champions League glory this term, and with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich still in the competition that is probably still the case. However, both teams have proved their credentials with impressive performances in the quarter-finals.
Liverpool made light work of beating Premier League champions Manchester City and will now look to make the most of home advantage in the first leg. The match will see Mo Salah face the team that he left last summer.
The Reds seem to have got their European groove back under Jurgen Klopp having also reached the Europa League final two years ago. However, they have yet to bag a trophy under the German. This would be the perfect way to open his account on Merseyside.
Liverpool have scored 10 goals and conceded one in their two knockout ties and they have scored at least two goals in each their last 12 matches on home soil. That`s not surprising when you consider the form of Player of the Years Mo Salah and fellow frontmen Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. The three have 23 Champions League goals between them this season.
Roma had a tougher time reaching this stage, needing an epic comeback to overhaul a 4-1 deficit to Barcelona in the quarter-finals. That game has given them confidence and they will always take pleasure in beating the team that lifted the European Cup on Roman soil at their expense back in 1984.
It has been a tough season in the league for the team from the capital but they have performed well in this competition having topped a group that contained Chelsea and Atletico Madrid before edging past Shakhtar Donetsk in the Last 16. However, they do not have a great away record, their only win this season coming against Qarabag in Azerbaijan and their last clean sheet coming 27 matches ago.
