The Queen Alexandra Stakes is a Conditions race open to horses aged four years and over. It is run over a distance of 2 miles, 5 furlongs and 159 yards (4,370 metres). It was first established in 1864 and is named Queen Alexandra (the consort of King Edward VII). In its early days, it was known as the Alexandra Plate. Today, the Queen Alexandra Stakes marks the end of the five-day Royal Ascot meeting.
Qewy is well fancied here following his exploits in Australia where won a Groups 3 contest and came an impressive fourth in the Melbourne Cup. He also has some decent Grade 2 experience and is the standout horse based on that form.
Another contender is Thomas Hobson who is running here off the back of an Ascot Stakes win on Tuesday. While some may feel this run is too soon after that effort, he will stand a chance if he can carry that form into this weekend`s finale. Of course, this race represents a stiffer test - however, trainer Willie Mullins feels he has a good chance repeating Simenon`s double success back in 2012. And of course, Mullins also enjoyed success here in 2014 with Pique Sous.
Each-way players should take a look at Motherland who is progressing well and is priced at a tempting 18/1.
Betting odds and tips
Thomas Hobson is attracting all the attention and offers decent value at 9/4 but Qewy looks too good to resist at a generous 4/1.
