Australian Open preview and odds: Andy Murray vs David Ferrer
January 27 2016 17:00pm - Rod Laver Arena
Australian Open - Quarter-finals
After cruising through his fourth round match against Bernard Tomic, Andy Murray is still on course to reach his fifth Australian Open final. Standing in his way is the hard-hitting Spaniard David Ferrer, who will be aiming for his third semi-final appearance.
Murray in dominant form
The two-time Grand Slam champion has dropped just one set in this tournament and seems to be hitting top form at just the right time. In the last round, he always looked in control as he beat Aussie hopeful Bernard Tomic in three straights sets. Even when he lost a set to Joao Sousa in Round 3, the Scot never looked like losing the match.
The biggest improvement for Murray has been his second serve success rate which has averaged at a respectable 57.5% during this event.
Murray has a 12-6 record against Ferrer and has won the last five meetings in a row.
Key stats from Andy Murray`s fourth round match:

- Points won on second serve: 57%
- Net points won: 69%

Ferrer in fighting mood
David Ferrer is one of those players that just keeps coming back. Just when you think he is past his best, he pulls out another heroic performance, but can he get the better of the World No. 2 for the first time since 2014?
The Spaniard had a strong finish to 2015 and despite a poor showing at the World Tour Finals, he defied all the odds by even making it to the sports showpiece event.
The 33-year-old has yet to lose a set at this year`s tournament, and has posted some impressive statistics in the process. In particular, he has excelled in the service department, and has cut out his tendency towards unforced errors. If he can maintain this level against Murray, it could produce a classic.
Key stats from Ferrer`s fourth round match:
- First serve success: 52%
- Points won on first serve: 82%
- Points won on second serve: 74%
- Net points won: 65%
- Unforced errors: 17
- Returns won: 37%
- Break points won: 3 out of 6
