Premier League preview and odds: Aston Villa vs Chelsea

April 02, 2016 12:45pm - Villa Park

Premier League

Doomed Aston Villa will be looking to salvage some pride from their dismal Premier League campaign when they welcome reigning champions Chelsea to Villa Park in Saturday’s early kick-off game.

Remi Garde set to leave

Remi Garde`s unsuccessful tenure at Aston Villa appears to be drawing to a close. The French Coach always had his work cut out taking over a side that was already rooted to the bottom of the table, but he was at least expected to bring about some significant improvement following the departure of Tim Sherwood. However, with just 12 points accumulated from Garde`s 30 games in charge, Villa’s points per game ratio has risen from 0.36 to just 0.4.

The Villains have yet to be officially relegated but their fans are resigned to the fact that they will be playing Championship football next season. They come into this clash against Chelsea on the back of six straight defeats and have failed to score a single goal in any of their last three matches.

Blues unbeaten in 14

Chelsea have yet to lose a Premier League match under Gus Hiddink and are unbeaten in 14 overall. However, the Blues won just six of those 14 matches and drew the over eight. As a result, they remain firmly stranded in mid-table with a disappointing total of just 41 points.

After getting dumped out of the Champions League by PSG and exiting the FA Cup at the hands of Everton, the Londoners were held to a 2-2 by West Ham United in their last Premier League encounter. They have enjoyed some recent success away from home, having won four of their last five games on the road, while drawing the other.

Team news

The home side will continue to operate without the services of Libor Kozak and Jordan Amavi, who are both still injured.

Meanwhile, Gus Hiddink will have to cope without the injured group of Robert Kenedy, Radamel Falcao, Eden Hazard and Kurt Zouma, while Diego Costa is suspended.
