French Open preview and odds: Jack Sock vs Albert Ramos-Vinolas
May 27, 2016 TBC - Roland Garros
World No. 25 Jack Sock will be looking to progress to the fourth round of the French Open for the second year in a row when he lines up against Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in Friday`s third-round clash.
Sock looking to break into top 20
After bursting onto the scene and rising rapidly up the rankings table, 23-year-old American Jack Sock has struggled to make further progress since peaking at No. 22 in the world. A good performance at this event could change all that and so far the signs are looking good.
A five-set first round battle against the experienced Robin Haase was followed up by a straight sets stroll past Germany`s Dustin Brown. Next up, is a third-round clash against 28-year-old Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas. The two have only met once previously (in the qualifying rounds of the Paris Master in 2014) and on that occasion, Sock came from a set down to win.
Meanwhile, Ramos-Vinolas is already in uncharted territory having never previously made it beyond the second round of a Grand Slam. He eased past the Argentinean pair of Horacio Zeballos (round 1) and Marco Trungelliti (round 2) to make it this far, but will be well aware that Sock will provide a much stiffer test.
The one positive for the World No. 55 is that all of his previous ATP and Challenger final appearances - in both singles and doubles - have come on clay.
Betting predictions
Despite his preference for clay and a good record on the Challenger circuit, Albert Ramos-Vinolas has yet to bag a win on the ATP tour. A Sock victory should be expected.
Back Jack Sock at 4/7 with Bet365.
