Tottenham look to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool as they welcome a Newcastle United side yet to win a point with two games played.

Mauricio Pochettino`s men opened the new campaign with a 3-1 win over newly promoted Aston Villa before surviving an onslaught at Man City to come away with a draw. With four points on the board, they can move to within two points of league leaders Liverpool with a win on Sunday.

The North Londoners did not look at their best in either of those games but would have been happy with the four points. They will hope to build some confidence by taking advantage of a vulnerable looking Newcastle side. The last two meetings in London between the two ended in 1-0 wins for the home side as the Magpies kept it tight under former boss Rafa Benitez.

Newcastle have had a dismal start to the campaign losing 0-1 at home to Arsenal before being soundly beaten 1-3 away to new boys Norwich City. Steve Bruce has yet to convince much of the home support that he is the right man for the job and defeat here could bring some early pressure on the former Sunderland boss.

There were a few positive signs in the opener against Arsenal but the defeat to Norwich showed the level the Geordies appear to be at. It could be a tough season for the faithful on Tyneside with a relegation battle looming.

Betting odds and tips

Benitez came close to taking a point from Spurs in each of the Geordies last two visits to the capital but ultimately the home side`s quality shone through. With goal difference an important factor in the battle for survival, Steve Bruce may be inclined to implement similar damage limitations tactics. As a result, a home win with Under 2.5 Goals looks like a tempting proposition at a price of 13/5.
