Spartak Moscow did not have the ideal start to their Champions League campaign, drawing 1-1 with group minnows Maribor in Slovenia and missing a chance to go top of their group in the process. They now face a much stiffer challenge as they welcome a chaotic but dangerous Liverpool side to Moscow.

Spartak took the lead in their opening game but were surprisingly pegged back to put their hopes of progressing from the group in jeopardy. And with Sevilla also in the group, their chances currently look very slim. However, a win over the five-time former champions could change all that.

The Russians have also stumbled somewhat in the league and now sit sixth in the table after 11 games. They come into this match on the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Anzhi, a game which epitomised their season so far, with goals flowing in at both ends.

With opponents Liverpool also leaking goals on a regular basis, this game could prove to be an entertaining contest. The Reds have been creating a ridiculous amount of chances going forward but their conversion rate has been low. You can`t help but feel that when they click, someone will be in for a hammering.

The Merseyside team put in a typically haphazard display at the weekend netting three times but conceding twice away to Leicester City but they still look well placed to make a challenge for the top four. With just two clean sheets from 10 competitive outings this term, their potent attack has perhaps not reaped the rewards it deserves and that will be a concern in this competition.
