Premier League preview and odds: Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City
February 26, 2017 13:30pm - White Hart Lane
Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur will look to climb back into second place in the Premier League table when they welcome 10th-ranked Stoke City to White Hart Lane on Sunday. The visitors themselves could reclaim ninth spot if they can avoid defeat.
Just one in last four for Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur have had a disappointing few weeks, having lost to Liverpool in the Premier League and then been dumped out of the Europa League by Belgium side Gent. They did manage to squeeze an FA Cup win away to Fulham in between those fixtures but overall they may be feeling a little downbeat.
Mauricio Pochettino`s men now have a chance to give themselves a lift by claiming second spot in the league (on a temporary basis at least). The North Londoners have scored at least one goal in all of their home matches this term and have won their last seven in a row at White Hart Lane. In addition, they have only conceded one goal in their last six home matches, and none in 2017.
Meanwhile, Stoke City are closing in on yet another ninth place finish in the Premier League. The mid-table specialists have finished in that position in the last three seasons and will move back into that spot if they can avoid defeat this weekend.
The Potters have lost four of their last five away matches but did manage to score on nine of their last 10 trips away from the Bet365 Stadium. Fortunately, their strong home form has kept them well clear of danger in the league.
Team news
The home side will have to make do without the injured pair of Erik Lamela (groin) and Danny Rose (knee).
Meanwhile, the visitors will definitely be without Phillip Bardsley (knock), Jonathan Walters (knee inflammation), Jack Butland (ankle) and Stephen Ireland (double leg fracture), while Xherdan Shaqiri (calf strain) and Geoff Cameron (knee) are both doubts.

Betting odds and tips
Despite Tottenham`s recent slip ups, their home form in the league makes impressive reading. That combined with Stoke`s poor form away from home in recent weeks, makes the home win look like even more likely. However, the visitors are not goal-shy on the road and with Spurs having played a tough European tie on Thursday night, the hosts can be expected to ship a goal on Sunday.
