Premier League preview and odds: Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur

April 02, 2016 17:30pm - Anfield

Premier League

Liverpool will be looking to get their top five quest back on track when they face title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Saturday in the Barclays Premier League.

Reds rocked by Saints comeback

At half time in their last match away to Southampton, Liverpool looked to be on course for all three points, but a second half comeback from the hosts left them empty-handed. Victory in that game would have moved them to within four points of the top four, but as things stand, Jurgen Klopp`s men remain seven points adrift of fourth-ranked Manchester City with a game in hand.

A win this weekend could put the Reds back in the hunt for a European qualification spot, and could also have a bearing on the title race. They have lost just one of their last seven home games in the league, having also won three and drawn three. In their last home game, the Merseyside team strolled to a 3-0 victory over Manchester City.

Spurs still hanging on to Leicester’s coat tails

Tottenham Hotspur are perhaps the only team that can spoil Leicester City`s Premier League fairy-tale. The Londoners are five points behind the pace-setters and have the best form of any team in the league over the last 10 games. However, based on current points per game ratios, the Foxes should have enough of a gap to finish ahead of their rivals.

Of course, a lot can happen over the last seven games and inevitable mounting pressure could also prove to be a factor. In that respect, Spurs will be hoping that they can maintain their form while their rivals buckle under the weight of expectation.

Last time out, Mauricio Pochettino`s men cruised to a 3-0 victory over fresh-faced Premier League newbies, AFC Bournemouth. In that game, Harry Kane scored a brace for the second game in a row to take his season’s tally to 21.

Team news

The home side are still operating without the services of Danny Ings and Joe Gomez.

Meanwhile, Nabil Bentaleb will be the only absentee for the visitors.

Betting odds and tips

This is a tough one to call but Spurs are on a mission and have won six of their last eight games on the road.

The Away Win can be backed at 17/10 with Bet365. Harry Kane should also be backed in the anytime goal scorer market providing he comes through England duty unscathed.
