French Open preview and odds: Jeremy Chardy vs Stan Wawrinka
May 27, 2016 - Roland Garros, Third Round
Reigning champion Stan Wawrinka will continue the defence of his French Open crown against World No. 32 Jeremy Chardy.
Wawrinka showing glimpses of 2015 clay form
After a couple of poor performances on clay in Madrid and Rome, Stan Wawrinka bounced back with victory in Geneva where he dropped just a single set on the way to his 14th career title.
The double Grand Slam winner had a great season last year, reaching at the least the quarter-final stage of every Grand Slam event. However, he was unable to carry that record into 2016, exiting the Australian Open at the fourth round stage.
The 31-year-old is still ranked No. 4 in the world, a position he has held since September last year. Next up for Stan is a player who he has beaten in each of their four previous meetings.
Jeremy Chardy and Stan Wawrinka last met nearly three years ago on the grass courts of Den Bosch where the Swiss player won in straight sets. Their two previous meetings on clay also resulted in straight sets wins for Wawrinka.
The Frenchman has never reached higher than No. 25 in the world and is currently ranked 32. His one and only ATP title came on the clay courts of Stuttgart back in 2009. His best ever Grand Slam performance came at the Australian Open three years ago when he reached the quarter-final stage. He has twice reached the fourth round at Roland Garros.
Betting predictions
Stan is prone to the odd slip-up but he has a title defend and should be fully focused for this game. Chardy will do well to even take a set.
You can back Wawrinka to win 3-0 at 5/6 with Bet365.
