Premier League preview and odds: Crystal Palace vs Newcastle
November 28, 2015 15:00pm - Selhurst Park
Premier League
Crystal Palace will try to halt their steady slide down the table on Saturday when they welcome strugglers Newcastle United to Selhurst Park in the Barclays Premier League.
Pardew looking for more consistency
It has been a typically up and down season for Crystal Palace, but over the last five games it has been more down than up for Alan Pardews men. After bothering the top four during the early weeks of the campaign, they have now slipped to 10th position, seven points behind fourth-ranked Arsenal. With just one draw to their name all season, the Eagles have become predictably unpredictable, having won six and drawn six since the opening day.
Palaces season can be summed up perfectly in the last two games when they put in a pitch perfect performance to overcome Jurgen Klopp`s Liverpool at Anfield and then fell at home to Sunderland in the next game. It is their home form that will be of most concern for Pardew - with just one win in their last five encounters at Selhurst Park.
Glimmer of hope for Toon
Newcastle are no longer in the bottom three and lost just two of their last five games. For a team that lost five of their first eight games, this represents a significant improvement however, their performances on the pitch have hardly been impressive.
They come into this game on the back of a 0-3 home defeat to league leaders Leicester City. Prior to that they were fortunate to have bagged all three points after being dominated at Bournemouth.
Team news
Alan Pardew will have to make do without Bakary Sako, Kwesi Appiah and Dwight Gayle when he picks a side to face his previous club this weekend.
Newcastle have had plenty of injury problems this season with Cheik Tiote the latest player to have joined the sick list. In total, the Geordies have eight players unavailable and two on the doubtful list.
