Euro 2016 preview and odds: Poland vs Portugal
Stade VĂ©lodrome, Marseille - 20:00pm 30 June 2016
Quarter-finals
Portugal will be playing in their sixth European Championship quarter-final when they line up against a Poland side who have never reached this stage before.
Ronaldo eyeing first international trophy
Portugal are the only team in history to have reached six European Championship quarter-finals - however, they have yet to win the event. Their best ever result came on home soil back in 2004 when they finished as runners-up to Greece. Meanwhile, Poland are enjoying their best ever campaign and will be looking to qualify for the semi-finals for the first ever time.
The teams have faced in other on 10 previous occasions in all competitions, with Portugal winning four and Poland winning three. When the teams faced each other in qualifying for Euro 2008, Poland won their home game 2-1 while the reverse match in Portugal ended in a 2-2 draw. Their last friendly meeting back in 2012 also ended in a draw as both sides failed to score.
The last major tournament clash between the two teams came at the 2002 World Cup when Portugal strolled to a 4-0 victory.
Despite their obvious flair and the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo in their side, Portugal have failed to impose themselves on their opposition in this tournament and have instead ground out results through persistence and hard work.
Their opponents have conceded just one goal so far and will provide a tough test for Ronaldo and his men. They may be entering uncharted waters but they have a team that is full of confidence and a proven world class striker up front. If Robert Lewandowski can find his best form, they stand a great chance of making the last four.
Form (all competitions):
Poland: WWDWD
Portugal: WDDDW

Portugal will start as favourites but Poland have been impressive and could cause a shock. They have struggled to score goals but have only conceded one and are well-priced to qualify at 6/4.
