Premier League preview and odds: Bournemouth vs Southampton
March 01, 2016 19:45pm - Vitality Stadium
Premier League
Bournemouth will be attempting to keep a safe distance between themselves and the Premier League drop zone when they go head-to-head with seventh-ranked Southampton at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday night.
Bournemouth still not safe
Bournemouth are without a win in three Premier League matches but still retain a five-point cushion over the relegation places. However, with 11 games still left to play, their future in the Premier League is still not assured.
Following home defeats Stoke and Arsenal, the Cherries did well to earn a point away to Watford in their last game. It was enough to put further distance between themselves and the teams occupying the drop zone.
Eddie Howe`s men have won just three games on home soil this season, and only Aston Villa have picked up less points in front of their own crowd.
Southampton eyeing top six finish
While Bournemouth try to keep their relegation rivals at arm`s reach, Southampton are busy trying to chase down their rivals for the European qualification spots. While a Champions League place is almost certainly out of the question, the Saints are just four points adrift of a Europa League berth.
Their cause was not helped in their last game when their six-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt end at home to Chelsea. Despite taking the lead in the first half, Ronald Koeman`s men could not hang on for the win and eventually fell 2-1 following two late strikes from the visitors.
Away from home the South Coast club have not conceded a goal in their last three games, having won two and drawn the other.
Team news
The home side will be without the injured trio of Lewis Grabban, Callum Wilson and Tyrone Mings.
Meanwhile, the visitors will be without Victor Wanyama, Jay Rodriguez and Florin Grados for this crucial clash.
