Premier League preview and odds: Sunderland vs Crystal Palace
March 01, 2016 19:45pm - Stadium of Light
Premier League
Sunderland we be hoping to edge closer to Premier League safety on Tuesday night when they welcome an out-of-sorts Crystal Palace side to the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland making steady progress
Just a couple of months ago, it appeared that the Sunderland would be left with a mountain to climb in the Barclays Premier League race for survival. But their steady form in 2016 has edged them ever closer to the shores of safety.
While other teams have declined since the New Year, the Black Cats have improved, and they now sit just one point adrift of 17th place. Over the last eight games, they have added 11 points to their total - more than all of their relegation rivals, and the 11th-best in the league.
The Mackems come into this game on the back of a 1-0 defeat away to West Ham United.
Palace decline continues
Crystal Palace have picked up just a single point in 2016 and have only managed three points from their last 10 games. They have the worst form of any team in the league during that period including rock-bottom Aston Villa.
If the Eagles do not find a solution to their slump soon, they could find themselves dragged into the end-of-season relegation battle. At the end of 2015, they were sitting comfortably in fifth place in the league - they are currently languishing in 14th place, having added just one point to their total.
In their, last match, Alan Pardew`s men were beaten 3-2 away to West Bromwich Albion.
Team news
The home side will be without Duncan Watmore and Jeremain Lens.
Meanwhile, the visitors will be without James McArthur, James Puncheon and Kwesi Appiah.
