Burnley vs Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League preview and odds
April 01, 2017 15:00pm - Turf Moor
Premier League
Burnley will look to break a six-game winless streak when they host second-ranked Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon. The visitors themselves can further consolidate their top four credentials with a win.
Safety stillnot guaranteed for Burnley
Although relegation still looks unlikely, Burnley will be keen to reach mathematical safety as soon as possible. A run of six games without a victory has seen them slip to 13th in the table, eight points clear of the drop zone. However, they have played five of their last six matches away from home. In fact, they have not played a Premier League match at home since February.
The good news is that on home soil the stats make much better reading, with five wins and a draw in their last six, including an impressive 1-1 against league leaders Chelsea last time out.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur will be looking for a win to keep their feint title hopes alive. The North Londoners are 10 points behind pace-setters Chelsea but just seven points clear of sixth-ranked Manchester United, who also have a game in hand. With that in mind, their focus may be on retaining their top four status rather than completing an unlikely chase down of the leaders.
However, Mauricio Pochettino`s men have failed to win any of their last three away games and were beaten 2-0 at Anfield on their last trip away from London. In fact, they have only won two of their last 10 on the road.
Team news
The home side will be without the services of Johann Gudmundsson (knee), Dean Marney (ACL) and Kevin Long (knee).
Meanwhile, Spurs will have to make do without the injured trio of Harry Kane (ankle ligament), Erik Lamela (groin) and Danny Rose (knee), while Kyle Walker (thumb) remains a doubt.
