La Liga preview and odds: Athletic Club vs Celta de Vigo
May 01, 2016 12:00pm - San Mames Barria
La Liga
Two teams battling for the European places in La Liga will go head-to-head on Sunday morning as sixth-ranked Athletic Club welcome fifth-ranked Celta de Vigo to San Mames.
Athletic defending three-point cushion over Sevilla
Athletic Club could leapfrog Celta de Vigo to claim fifth place in the table with a win at home on Sunday morning. A defeat however, could put their top-six status in jeopardy with seventh-ranked Sevilla closing in.
Only the top three teams in the league and local rivals Real Sociedad have beaten the hosts at San Mames in La Liga this season. Los Leones come into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw away to lowly Levante, in which they had to battle back from two goals down to salvage a point.
Celta chasing Champions League spot
Celta de Vigo are still in with a chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for just the second time in their history. To achieve that feat, the Galician club must overhaul a four-point gap to fourth-ranked Villarreal. With just three games remaining, defeat this weekend could put an end to their ambitions, depending on how the Yellow Submarine fare against Valencia.
Os Celticos are unbeaten in their last seven league games, having won four and drawn the other three. Away from home, they have lost just one of the last five. In their last league match, secured a narrow 2-1 win at home to relegation battlers Granada.
Team news
De Marcos, Aduriz, Sabin and Aymeric Laporte could all miss out for the home side.
Meanwhile, the visitors will have to cope without the services of Nestor Diaz, Claudio Beauvue and Andreu Fontas.
