Premier League preview and odds: Tottenham Hotspur vs. Aston Villa

November 2, 2015 20:00pm White Hart Lane

Premier League

Monday night football makes a welcome return to the Premier League schedule this week as tough-to-beat Tottenham welcome rudderless Aston Villa to the White Hart Lane turf. Spurs out to make it ten without loss

Tottenham Hotspur could extend their unbeaten run to ten games by avoiding defeat against the league`s current bottom-feeders. Spurs have lost just one game this season (an opening day defeat to Manchester United), although a batch of five drawn games has prevented them from gate-crashing the top four party.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men currently sit in sixth place in the league just five points off top spot. They are unbeaten at home having won two and drawn three of the five games played at their North London base.

Villa in disarray

Villa started the season in the perfect way, with an away win at newly-promoted Bournemouth. Since then, a run of eight defeats in nine games has left the club rooted to the floor of the Premier League table and without a manager. During that spell, the Midland side picked up their one and only point in the 2-2 draw against fellow strugglers Sunderland. The next time the clubs meet, they will both have new bosses at the helm.

It is widely expected that Frenchman Remi Garde will be named as the replacement for the departing Tim Sherwood but that appointment may not be made in time for Monday’s game.

Team news

Spurs have several players unavaiable including Frederico Fazio, Nacer Chadli, Heung Min Son and Nabil Bentaleb.

Meanwhile, Jolean Lescott, Micah Richards and Craig Gardner are all doubtful for the visitors.

Betting odds and tips

Spurs put five past struggling Bournemouth last weekend but it may be too much to expect a similar score-line this week. Under the guidance of caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald, the Villains will be on a damage limitation exercise until a successor to Sherwood can be confirmed.

With a defensive approach expected from the away side a low scoring home win to nil can be expected. You can back Spurs to win 1-0 at 13/2 with Bet365 or 2-0 at the same price with Betvictor. Alternatively, the homw win to nil can be backed at 11/8 with Skybet.
