Premier League preview and odds: Sunderland vs Tottenham Hotspur
January 31 , 2017 19:45pm - Stadium of Light
Premier League
Sunderland are winless in five and have fallen back to the foot of the Premier League table. Next up for the Black Cats is a clash against one of the league`s title contenders.
Sunderland still rooted to the floor
A mini-revival in November and December saw Sunderland climb out of the drop zone. Unfortunately, the north east club have since gone on a dismal run in which they have picked up just one point from their last five games. As a result, they are once again propping up the table in 20th place.
On the bright side, David Moyes` men have lost just two of their six at the Stadium of Light including their last home fixture against Stoke City (1-3).
Meanwhile, opponents Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to keep themselves in the title race by bagging a win on Wearside. Mauricio Pochettino`s men are unbeaten in seven matches in the league and come into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw away to title rivals Manchester City.
Away from home, the Lilywhites have scored 10 goals in their last three games, having beaten Southampton and Watford by 4-1 score lines prior to the draw with Man City. They have yet to lose to a team outside of the top six this season.
Team news
Papiss Djilobodji is suspended for the home side, while Victor Anichebe (knee injury), Jordan Pickford (anterior cruciate ligament sprain), Jan Kirchhoff (cartilage injury), Duncan Watmore (ACL), Paddy McNair (knee) and Lee Cattermole (hip) are all out injured. To add to their woes, Jason Denayer (groin), Javi Manquillo (calf) and Steven Pienaar (calf) are all doubtful.
Meanwhile, the visitors will have to cope without the services of Georges-Kevin NKoudou (knee), Kieran Tripier (knock), Jan Vertonghen (ankle ligament) and Erik Lamela (hip), while Harry Kane (tight groin), Danny Rose (knee) and Toby Alderweireld (tight hamstring) are all doutbtful.

Betting odds and tips
Sunderland have shown little sign of recovery in recent weeks and are coming up against a Spurs side that have been both prolific and effective in recent weeks.
The visitors will be favourites for the win but they have struggled to keep clean sheets on the road. With no Vertonghen at the back and Alderweireld also a doubt, that trend may just continue. Whats more, Sunderland have a fairly decent strike rate at home, having netted in all but two of their fixtures.
