This year`s edition of the popular Audi Cup competition will kick off with an intriguing clash between Atletico Madrid and Napoli at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Atletico have had a late start to their pre-season campaign, with just a 0-0 draw away to Mexican side Toluca contested so far. They could now play up to five games in the next 12 days ahead of the new La Liga season which gets underway on August 19.

With a transfer ban currently in force, the Spaniards will start the season with pretty much the same team as last season with the notable exception of Theo Hernandez who has made the switch to their cross city rivals Real Madrid. However, the player had yet to feature under Diego Simeone so will hardly be missed. As a result, there is zero work to do in terms of integrating new players.

Instead, the Argentine Coach will be seeking to get the best out his current crop of players in order to stay in contention with the big two during the coming campaign.

Napoli have been active in the transfer market, bringing in centre-back Nikola Maksimovic, winger Adam Ounas and midfielder Marko Rog. So far, their star players have remained put so they will be hopeful of pushing from last year`s third place finish.

The Italian side have had a busier pre-season which started with a 17-0 thrashing of amateur side Anaunia FC and has also featured wins over Trento and Carpi and a draw against Chievo. Following this event, they will head to the UK to face Bournemouth before hosting Spanish side Espanyol on home soil.
