Southampton vs Manchester United - Premier League Preview and Odds
August 31, 2019 12:30pm - St Marys Stadium (Southampton)
Premier League
Southampton may be 13 places behind Manchester United in the Premier League table but with just one point separating the two teams, the hosts can overtake the visitors with a win on Saturday lunchtime.
The Saints began the season with back-to-back defeats away to Burnley and at home to Liverpool but bounced back with a convincing win at Brighton and Hove Albion last week. A mid-week League Cup win away to Fulham gave their confidence a further boost ahead of this weekend`s clash.
The South Coast side have not won any of the last seven meetings between the two teams but did hold them to a 2-2 draw in the same fixture last year. They will look to take advantage of a United side that have taken just one point from their last two Premier League games.
Manchester United kicked off their campaign with a 4-0 win over Chelsea - a result that flattered them in hindsight. Since then, they have drawn 1-1 at Wolverhampton Wanderers and lost 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace. They showed little in those two games to suggest they have made much progres since the end of last season.
Already five point behind league leaders Liverpool, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer`s men have already been written out of the title race by most pundits and bookies have them priced at 50/1 or higher.
The Red Devils have not won any of their last five away matches in the league with their last win coming back in February and they drew this fixture last year. With just a point separating them from 19th-ranked Newcastle United, anything other than a win this weekend could see them slip into a mid-table position or worse.

Betting odds and tips
The visitors are poor value at 10/11 considering they have won just two of their last 10 Premier League matches. Southampton have won four of their last 10 home games but lost just three. As a result, the Southampton/Draw Double Chance bet looks best value at a price of 4/5.
You can back Southampton/Draw Double Chance at 4/5.
