Premier League preview and odds: Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur
January 3, 2015 13:30pm - Goodison Park
Premier League
Everton will be looking to abort their descent down the Premier League table when they extend a New Years welcome to title candidates Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Sticky patch for Toffees
Everton have won just one of their last six Premier League matches and now find themselves occupying the bottom half of the league table. Their only win during that spell came courtesy of a last second Tom Cleverley winner at Newcastle.
They followed up that win with a narrow 3-4 home defeat at the hands of Stoke City. That defeat leaves the Toffees nine points adrift of the top four with half the season gone.
Spurs marked as genuine contenders
After going about their business without much fanfare this season, Tottenham have now become serious title contenders. Of all the teams linked with a challenge for the Premier League crown, Spurs are perhaps the most sensible choice. They have been consistent throughout the campaign and continued to improve at a very steady rate. If their trajectory continues at the same pace, they should be in the mix come May.
Mauricio Pochettinos men have lost just one of their last 18 Premier League matches and are unbeaten in their last eight away matches. They have also scored on all but one of their road trips including the last eight in a row.
Team news
Everton are without the injured group of Tom Cleverley, Phil Jagielka, James McCarthy, Tony Hibbert and Bryan Oviedo.
Meanwhile, Spurs will have to cope without Moussa Dembele, Clinton N`Jie and Alex Pritchard.
